The Talent Development function at Keiter CPAs and Consultants includes both external and internal coaches. Through our coaching program we have brought Rick in multiple times to deliver concentrated developmental coaching to some of our most high potential leaders.

 

Our experience working with Rick has been phenomenal. As the Talent Development Manager, it is important to me to ensure that we get the most value from our educational investment. From the beginning, Rick acted as a partner with me to help me achieve my objectives in the coaching engagements. He protected the confidentiality of the coaching relationship while still letting me know that important work was being done, and that there was movement.

 

Rick also balances the needs of the organization with the needs of the individual being coached. One of the enhancements he introduced to our coaching program is the triad meeting where Rick, the coachee, a senior stakeholder, and I would discuss the progress of the coaching engagement. It allowed an information exchange while still giving control to the person being coached around how much was shared.

 

Of course, it’s important to say that Rick’s work as a coach is top-notch. I have witnessed the growth of our team members who were fortunate enough to get to work with Rick. They have discovered important insights and have grown from the coaching experience.

I had the privilege of working with Rick Greentree for over 20 years while serving as Firm Managing Partner.  I knew Rick to be a well-grounded and down-to-earth business partner and colleague.
 
Over the course of Rick’s 17 years with Cherry Bekaert, he consulted Firm clients on organizational and leadership matters and (for 6 years) simultaneously directed the Firm’s HR function.
 
As HR Director, Rick redeveloped Firm processes and materials relating to Manager and Partner evaluation/selection; performance management, and Firm policies and procedures. He assisted in the design and facilitation of annual Partners’ Meetings, annual business planning meetings, and Executive Committee meetings. Rick also coached and counseled Partners regarding leadership issues, team development, culture change, and conflict management. He developed and repeatedly conducted a very successful leadership development program for future Partners.

Improving Virginia’s transportation system was a central priority of Governor Gerald Baliles’ administration. Though Virginia’s Department of Transportation had a well-deserved reputation for accomplishment, heightened citizen expectations, the importance of achieving a more diverse workforce, and the need to streamline project planning, required VDOT to change its deeply vested organizational culture. As Governor Baliles’ appointed Transportation Commissioner, I recognized how challenging such change would be to plan and implement and hired Rick Greentree to assist with this initiative. I worked with Rick throughout my eight years at VDOT and can say without reservation that he proved to be an immense asset to the agency and to me.
 
Rick performed many tasks. He advised my management team and me; assisted division managers with personnel and policy matters; reviewed and strengthened numerous training programs; conducted team building across the agency; championed the VDOT values initiative (an initiative that produced profound change in many personnel management practices). Rick's quick grasp of complex issues, wise counsel, collaborative spirit, and desire to make a difference were highly valued by those he worked with.

Upon leaving VDOT, I assumed a faculty position at Virginia Tech’s Center for Public Administration & Policy. I invited Rick to teach sessions on change management at several graduate-level classes. As before, he did an outstanding job and I enthusiastically recommend Rick to any organization seeking assistance in managing change or developing its leadership talent.
